Trip to Sayulita, Riviera Nayarit

Sayulita – “crown jewel ” of the Riviera Nayarit – Mexico

Sayulita Mexico has been a special destination for me during my Mexico visit. Not a popular beach destination for tourist outside the country, Sayulita brings you closure to Mexico and the local people. One of my close Mexican friend had suggested this place to me which made me visit 3 times during my 2+ years stay in Mexico.

I remember the first time when I visited with 4 friends it was 12:30 AM at night we reached. As it was a remote place it took us a lot of time without GPS to reach. To our luck, we did not book any hotel to stay in. All the hotels were locked and after some thinking, we finally knocked one of the hotels. After some time an old guy came out and with our broken Spanish we told we need rooms to spend the night. To our luck, the old guy was nice and offered us 2 rooms.
Next morning we witnessed the most beautiful beach and all of our faces had a BIG smile of joy. The sound of the waves, the freshness in the air and the colourful surrounding all welcomed us to Sayulita.

Sayulita Beach

Sayulita is a surfers paradise. Huge waves and colourful surfboards were all around. I regretted of not knowing how to surf but to watch the surfers was also an amazing sight. After spending some morning hours on the beach it was time to explore the city. Walking through the streets we stopped at a small shack to have a quick breakfast and started our conversation with the people around. To our surprise, we found a lot of shop owners were not Mexican. For them, it was a calm quiet place to settle down and enjoy the magnificent beach.
We then managed to get an ATV tour. The instructor, as well as the terrain, was great. We first started with climbing a mountain and it was not easy. With narrow roads and steep climb, things were a little scary.

Sayulita ATV Ride

After the mountains, it was time to hit the beach with our ATV and have some fun. The long stretch of sand was an excellent place to show some riding skills. The beach was less crowded and clean and we had a blast racing each other.
As the sun went down the entire city was awake with local music and tunes. The tempo in the air and the delicious food made the evening rocking with our feet tapping to the rhythm. From local mariachi to disco it was a complete blend of music. And who can forget the Tequila and Corona from Mexico which by now has become very regular like Coke or Pepsi to us 🙂
The next day was to sail out into the sea and explore the famous Marieta Islands “hidden beach”. We got an excellent boat guide who was fluent in English. After reaching the Island it was time to get into the water and explore the fishes and reach the hidden beach. The experience was awesome once we landed to the white sand hidden beach.

After returning we were completely exhausted but we had not come to Sayulita to be in the hotel. After getting refreshed it was time to hit back to the beach and have a beautiful view and enjoy some local Tacos & Quesadillas. In my entire Mexico visit, I tasted the best ones in Sayulita.

Sayulita Food

Well, there is so much more to this place and I wish one day I can visit it again.
Till then enjoy this Video on Sayulita to experience the beauty!!!
